Book Vault
In testing
Every book, and where you're up to.
Scan a book's barcode, search for it or type it in, and Book Vault keeps your place in it, whether it's print, an ebook or an audiobook. Rate it in quarter stars when you finish, and watch your year fill up as a shelf of spines.
Android and iPhone
Not out yet. It's in closed testing on Google Play, so you can't download it yet. Help test it and you can. Email me and I'll let you know when it is.
What it does
A reading tracker with no account and nothing to sync.
-
Three ways to add a book
Scan the barcode, search by title, author or ISBN, or type it in. Scanning stays open after each book, so a whole shelf goes in one after another.
-
Progress your way
Pages or a percentage for print and ebooks, hours and minutes for audiobooks. Nudge it on a page at a time or jump straight to where you are.
-
Quarter stars and re-reads
Tap for whole and half stars, slide for quarters. Read a book again and the new read gets its own dates, while the first keeps its own.
-
Your year as a shelf
Every book you finish stands on the year's shelf as a spine, as thick as its page count and coloured from its cover. Share it as a picture whenever you like.
-
A goal that never nags
Set a number of books for the year and it tells you when you're ahead or on pace. When you're not, it just says how many are left. No streaks and no reminders.
-
Quotes, thoughts and tags
Keep the lines you want to remember with their page, write what you thought for nobody but you, and tag books into your own shelves.
-
Your edition, your details
Pick the edition you're holding so the cover and page count match your copy. Anything still wrong can be corrected, and a photo of your own copy can be its cover.
-
Bring your books with you
Import from Goodreads or The StoryGraph with your shelves, ratings, read dates and re-reads intact. The spreadsheet export is in Goodreads' own layout, so nothing is locked in here.
-
On your phone, not on a server
No account, no sign-in and no sync. Your library lives on your phone and works offline, and backup and export are free.
What it costs
Book Vault is free and has no adverts. There's a tip jar if you'd like to use it, and a tip unlocks nothing.
- Price
- Free
- Purchases
- An optional tip, which unlocks nothing. No subscription.
- Adverts
- None, ever.
Everything is free: adding and scanning, progress, ratings, re-reads, quotes, tags, the year shelf and the goal. So are importing from Goodreads and The StoryGraph, backup and spreadsheet export.
The tip jar in Settings is there if the app has earned a place on your phone. A tip is a thank you and nothing more: nothing is locked, and nothing changes when you leave one.
Privacy and support
Your library stays on your phone. Books and covers are looked up on Open Library, and nothing from your library goes with them. No account, no adverts and no tracking. The full privacy policy says exactly what is kept and what is sent.
