Vinyl Vault
In development
Every record, the exact pressing.
Flip through your crate like the real thing. Scan a sleeve in a shop to see if you already own it, pick the pressing you're holding, and read what the dead wax says about where it was cut.
Android, iPhone later
Not out yet. It's still being made, so you can't download it yet. Email me and I'll let you know when it is.
What it does
A record collection that needs no account. Friends are optional.
-
The shop test
Holding something in a charity shop you might already own? Scan the barcode or type the catalogue number and it tells you at once: in your crate, on your want list, or new to you. It works with no signal, and scanning has no limit.
-
A crate you flip through
Your records stand in a crate behind divider cards, letters by artist or decades by year, and you flick through the sleeves with a thumb, the way you would in a shop.
-
The exact pressing
Pick the pressing you're holding: label, catalogue number, country and year. Then what makes your copy yours: first pressing or repress, colour, weight and speed, Record Store Day, numbered, signed, gatefold, obi, still sealed.
-
Read the dead wax
Type in the runout etching and it says what the marks suggest: the plant that pressed it and often who cut it, from over fifty marks. It says what a mark suggests, never what it proves.
-
Who played on it
The tracklist by side with running times, and the credits: producer, engineer, mastering, the sleeve designer and the musicians with what they played.
-
Spins and the stylus
Tap Spin it when the needle drops. The Deck shows what you reach for and what you haven't played in a year, and how worn the stylus on your arm is.
-
Firsts, not totals
Each record remembers what it started: the first pressing from a country, the first coloured vinyl, the oldest record in the crate. Breadth, never a count to chase.
-
On your phone first
No account needed. Your collection lives on your phone and works offline. Sign in to a Pikeworks account if you like, and a private copy is kept with it to bring back on a new phone. Backup and the spreadsheet export are free.
What it costs
Vinyl Vault is free and has no adverts. One payment unlocks the deeper digging, if you want it.
- Price
- Free
- Purchases
- Vinyl Vault Pro, one payment of £5.99, not a subscription.
- Adverts
- None, ever.
Scanning, the crate, the want list, grading, pressing details, the runout reader, credits, spins and the stylus are all free, with no limit on scans. So are backup and the spreadsheet export, which is laid out for insurance.
Friends are free too, and optional. They need a free Pikeworks account, and nothing goes to them until you turn friends on.
Vinyl Vault Pro is one payment for the analysis: a price sweep of the whole crate in one go, first pressings against repressings and colour against black with what each is worth, and the label and decade tables with the records you have never once played.
Privacy and support
Your collection lives on your phone, and if you sign in to a Pikeworks account, a private copy of it is kept with your account so you can get it back. What you scan or search for is looked up with MusicBrainz, Discogs and the Cover Art Archive. The full privacy policy says exactly what is kept and what is sent.
