Easy on the eyes
Numbers you can read at arm's length, with clear lines between the boxes. Three board colours: Paper, Night and High contrast. The one box at a time view fills the screen with a single box, for a small phone or tired eyes.

Easy on the hands
Pick a number once, then tap every square it goes in, or pick the square first if you prefer. Undo as far back as you like. Mistakes are never counted against you.

A coach, not a cheat
A hint names the reasoning, such as a hidden single, a pointing pair or an X wing, lights up the squares it rests on, and leaves the number to you. Three hints a puzzle are included.

Learn the techniques
A library explains the ten moves a sudoku can ask of you, in plain words, each shown on a real board. The two singles, which are all a Gentle puzzle needs, are open to everyone.

Gentle, Steady, Tricky, Testing and Fiendish, graded by the techniques each puzzle actually needs. Every puzzle has one answer and can be solved without guessing.

The daily puzzle is the same for everyone. A calendar shows the days you have done, with no streak to lose.

Every square is read out by row, column and box, along with what is in it, and every key and control is labelled.

Stays on your phone
No account. Your games, settings and statistics are kept on your phone, with a backup to a file and a spreadsheet export whenever you want. Several people can share one phone.
Adverts, and the one payment
Sudoku Nine is free to play and shows adverts. Here is exactly where they go.
A small banner sits on the menus, never on the board. A full screen advert can appear after you finish a puzzle, never in the middle of one, and never in your first few puzzles.
If you want an extra hint, a day with a locked technique, a large print booklet or an hour with no adverts at all, you can choose to watch a short advert for it. In the UK and Europe you are asked first whether adverts may be personalised, and you can change your answer in Settings.
Nine Complete is one payment: unlimited hints, the whole technique library, printable large print booklets with the answers at the back, a choice of app icon, and no adverts.
If adverts are all you want gone, Remove adverts does just that for less. Neither is a subscription.
