Help test an app before it's out

Google won't put an Android app on the Play Store until twelve people have tested it for a fortnight. If you fancy giving one a go early, this is how.

Join the tester group first. It's open to anyone: join the group with the Google account you use on your Android phone, and most of the links below then work straight away. The ones marked "ask first" still use an older list, so for those, email hello@pikeworks.co.uk with that account and I'll add you.

What needs testers

What you'd be doing

  1. Open the link on your Android phone, signed in to the account you joined the group with. It has to be that one.
  2. Tap "Become a tester", then install the app from Google Play (Pagebench and Undergloam from their free install link, below).
  3. Have a proper go on it, and leave it installed for two weeks. That last part is what Google checks.
  4. Tell me anything confusing, broken or annoying.

Pagebench and Undergloam are free for testers

They cost money in the shop, but not while you're testing them. It takes two links instead of one:

  1. Join the group, open the app's test link above and tap "Become a tester". That's the part Google counts.
  2. Then install it from its free install link (Pagebench, Undergloam), not from the shop. That link works once you're on the free list, and I add everyone in the group to it within a day of them joining.

If Google Play asks you to pay, you're not on the free list yet. Give it a day, or email me.

There's nothing to sign up to beyond the Google account you already have. You can leave a test whenever you like, from the same link. An iPhone can't take part, because this is a Google Play test.
