Common questions

Where is my collection kept?

On your phone, whether or not you sign in. A Pikeworks account is optional. Signed in, a private copy of your collection is kept with it so you can get it back on a new phone. Friends only get the spins you choose to share, and never what you paid, where a record is kept or how it's graded.

How does the shop test work?

On the Crate tab, scan the barcode on the back of a sleeve, or type the catalogue number off the label. The app checks your own crate and want list first, so it answers straight away with no signal: in your crate, on your want list, or new to you. Scanning is free and has no limit.

The pressing it found isn't the one I'm holding.

Most records were pressed many times, in different countries and years. Open the record and pick the pressing that matches your label, catalogue number and country. If yours isn't listed, keep the nearest one and correct the details by hand: label, year, country, colour, weight and the rest.

What does the runout reader tell me?

Type in what is etched or stamped in the dead wax, the smooth ring between the last track and the label. The app knows over fifty marks and says what they suggest, such as the plant that pressed it or the engineer who cut it. A mark suggests; it doesn't prove, and a reissue can carry an old mark.

How do spins and the stylus work?

Tap Spin it on a record when the needle drops. Each spin counts towards the wear on the stylus you have set up in Settings, so the Deck can tell you roughly how many hours it has left. Spins also show what you reach for most and what you haven't played in a year.

Where do the prices come from?

From Discogs: the lowest price a copy of that pressing was listed for when the app last asked. It's an estimate for a copy like yours, not a valuation. Tap Refresh on a record for its latest price, free, or sweep the whole crate at once with Pro.

Will I lose everything if I change phone?

Not if you back it up first. Settings, Back up everything, writes one file with every record, spin and stylus. Copy it across and use Restore from a backup. Purchases come back separately with Restore purchases. If you're signed in to your Pikeworks account, your collection is backed up with it too: sign in on the new phone and Vinyl Vault offers to bring it back.

Can I bring my Discogs collection across?

Yes, with Pro. On discogs.com open your collection, choose Export and pick CSV, then use Import Discogs collection in Settings. Records already in the crate are skipped, and the file is read on your phone. Backup, restore and the spreadsheet export of your own collection are always free.

Do I need an account?

No. Vinyl Vault works fully without one. A Pikeworks account is optional. Signed in, it keeps a private copy of your collection so you can get it back on a new phone, and it's what friends use. It's one sign-in for every Vault app. To make one, open Settings, then Pikeworks account, and choose how to sign in.

How do I add a friend?

Sign in to your Pikeworks account, open Friends and choose a handle. Then send them your link, show them your QR code to scan, or type their handle. There's no directory and no search, so nobody can find you unless you hand them your handle, the link or the code. Friends are shared across the Vault apps.

I had friends in an earlier version of the app.

That was Vault Social, an older service, which was switched off on 10 October 2026. Friends now use your Pikeworks account, and nothing was moved across from the old one, so add your friends again with your new link. The old account was deleted on 19 October 2026, and there's nothing you need to do. The delete page has the detail.

Somebody is being a nuisance.

Block and Report sit on every post, comment, friend and friend request. Blocking works straight away, in every Vault, and they aren't told. I read every report myself and aim to do it within a day; the person you report is never told who reported them. If it's about a child, choose A child at risk, and it's hidden at once. If anyone is in danger right now, call 999. The community rules say what isn't allowed and how to ask for a second look.

Can I delete everything?

Uninstalling the app removes your collection, because all of it is on the phone. Your Pikeworks account, with everything friends holds about you, is separate: delete it in Settings, Pikeworks account, Delete account, or from the delete page without installing anything. Deleting the account doesn't touch your collection.
