Common questions
How do I get my friends in?
Open the group and tap Invite. Send the link however you like. Your friend taps it, picks their name from the list, and they're in, with or without installing the app. You can also add someone by name and add bills straight away: add their email address and the group appears for them as soon as they sign in with it.
Can I split with one person, outside a group?
Yes. Open Friends and tap Add a friend. Bills with just the two of you live there, and the Friends tab adds up everything you owe each other across all your groups.
What does "Fewest payments" do?
It works out the smallest number of payments that settles everyone, keeping what each person is owed or owes exactly the same. Turn it off in the group's Balances to see who owes whom bill by bill instead.
How do the ways to split work?
Equally shares a bill between the people you tick. Amounts lets you type each person's part. % splits by percentage and Shares by portions, such as two shares for someone who had double. Items, with Plus, lets you tick who had each line of a receipt, and shares service and tax in proportion. Any odd penny is passed round fairly rather than always landing on the same person.
What about other currencies?
Every bill can be in its own currency. Clementine fills in that day's reference rate, which you can change, and adds it to the group in the group's currency. Turn off Combine currencies in the group's settings to keep each currency separate instead.
I've got a new phone. How do I get my groups back?
If you signed in, sign in again on the new phone. If you didn't, use your recovery key: on the new phone, choose I have a recovery key when the app starts, or Use a recovery key on the sign-in screen. Make a key any time from the You tab. Without either, I have no way to tell which account is yours.
Does Clementine move money?
No. Settle up can open PayPal, Monzo, Revolut, a UPI app or your bank details with the amount filled in, if the person you're paying has added them under How friends pay you. Once you've paid, record it so everyone's balance updates.
Can I bring my groups over from Splitwise?
Yes. In Splitwise, open the group, then its settings, then Export as spreadsheet. In Clementine, open You, then Bring a group from Splitwise, and choose the file. Every bill and payment comes across with the same balances.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open You, then Delete account. It goes straight away, with any group only you could see. Groups you share stay for the others in them. If you can't open the app any more, email clementine@pikeworks.co.uk and say which name you used in which groups, and I'll delete it for you. The privacy policy has the detail.
