Privacy policy

Beer Vault is made by PikeWorks, one person in Northern Ireland, the developer named on its Google Play listing. This page says what the app keeps, what leaves your phone, and why.
What stays on your phone
Your beers, check-ins, ratings, tasting notes, venues, photos, flavour tags, badges and settings are stored in the app's private storage on your phone. None of it is sent to the developer unless you turn on Vault Social, described below, and even then your venues and photos never leave the phone.
A backup file or a CSV export is only created when you tap to make one, and it goes wherever you choose to send it. Importing an Untappd export reads the file on your phone.
Looking things up
When you scan a barcode or search for a beer, the barcode or the words you typed are sent to Open Food Facts to find the product. When you type a brewery name, it is sent to Open Brewery DB to suggest a match. Both are free public databases. They receive what you searched for and, like any website, your IP address. Nothing else is sent with it.
Vault Social, if you turn it on
Vault Social is off until you turn it on in the app. It lets you add friends by their handle and see each other's check-ins. It does not ask for your name, email address or phone number. When you turn it on, the Vault Social service, run by the developer on a server in the United Kingdom, holds:
- a handle, made up for you and changeable, and a display name or short bio if you add one;
- a sign-in key for each phone, stored only in a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into the key, with the phone's operating system version and the date it last signed in;
- a scrambled copy of your recovery phrase, if you make one;
- for each new check-in: the beer's name, the brewery, your rating, the product picture from Open Food Facts if there is one, and your note only if you switched on "Show this note to friends" for that check-in;
- the list of beers you have rated, with your rating, so friends can compare;
- your friends, requests and blocks, and the reactions and comments you add;
- any report you make, and, if someone reports you, a copy of what was reported until it has been dealt with;
- whether you have bought Beer Vault Pro, so friends see a small ring on your picture.
Only the friends you accept can see your check-ins, and you can make them private in Settings at any time. There is no public profile, no directory and no search for strangers. Connections to the service pass through Cloudflare, which protects it from attack. Your IP address is used to stop abuse such as mass sign-ups, and is kept for no more than two days. There are no adverts and no analytics.
The service is used only to run Vault Social. Nothing in it is sold or shared with anyone for any other purpose. Other people see only what is described above, and only if you are friends.
Purchases
Beer Vault Pro is a one-off purchase processed by Google Play. The purchase is checked by RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user ID and the purchase receipt so that it can confirm what you bought and restore it on another phone. The developer never sees your name, email address or payment details. RevenueCat's policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Permissions
Beer Vault asks for the camera only to scan barcodes and take photos of your beer, and only when you tap to do so. Photos stay on your phone. It does not ask for your location or contacts.
Age
Beer Vault is about alcohol and is intended for adults. It is not directed at children, and Vault Social is not for anyone under 18.
Deleting your information
Uninstalling Beer Vault deletes everything it stored on your phone. To delete your Vault Social account, open Settings, then Friends, then Delete the account. That deletes the account and everything it held straight away, including your posts, comments, friends and reports you made. Nightly backups of the service are kept for 14 days, so a deleted account is gone from those within 14 days. If you can no longer open the app, see deleting a Vault Social account.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what Vault Social holds about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Vault Social relies on your choice to turn it on, and on the developer's legitimate interest in keeping the service safe.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the new version replaces this one.
