Where are my files kept?

In Pagebench's Library, on your phone. Nothing is uploaded. To get a file out, open it and tap Share, or Save to Files on iPhone and Save to folder on Android.

How do I open a PDF from another app?

Use that app's share button and pick Pagebench. On Android you can also use Open with. The file is added to your Library, and your original is not changed.

It says my PDF is locked.

Type its password when Pagebench asks. If you do not know the password, Pagebench cannot open it, and neither can anyone else. The Lock tool can save a copy without the password once you have typed it.

Shrink made no difference.

Shrink makes the photos and scans inside a PDF smaller and leaves the text alone. A PDF that is mostly text is already small. Pagebench then offers to turn every page into a picture, which usually helps with scans but means the text can no longer be selected.

The scanner will not start on my Android phone.

The scanner is part of Google Play services. Make sure Google Play services is up to date. The first scan may need a connection once while Google Play services fetches the scanner.

Can it convert Word or Excel files?

No. Pagebench works on PDFs and pictures only, and does not edit the text inside a PDF.

I forgot the password I put on a file.

It cannot be recovered: that is what makes the lock worth having. If you still have the file you locked, it is in your Library without a password, because Lock always saves a new copy.
